Where I’ve Been, and Why Authenticity Still Wins
I’ve been a little MIA lately. Not in a mysterious, Eat Pray Love way…more in a quiet, uninspired, staring-at-the-screen-and-feeling-nothing kind of way.
Mostly, I just haven’t felt compelled to share personal thoughts or feelings. And honestly? Looking at the world around us, I don’t think that’s surprising. I have a strong feeling many of you feel the same. There’s a collective exhaustion in the air..one that comes from living in a society engineered for short attention spans and instant gratification.
We’re surrounded by content designed to be consumed, forgotten, and replaced within seconds. Everything is optimized for quick hits of dopamine, encouraging us to scroll erratically, hunting for just one more post..as long as it’s new, loud, and temporarily distracting enough to justify the doom scroll.
The other reason I went quiet? It’s getting harder to know what actually interests people anymore. Trends move faster than moods. One minute it’s this, the next minute it’s something else, and if you blink, you’ve missed it, and apparently need to reinvent yourself again.
Then I remembered why I started this blog in the first place.
Not to chase trends.
Not to compete for clicks.
Not to package myself into something algorithm-friendly.
I started this space to share thoughts and feelings. Period. And frankly..to hell with distractions.
So here’s what’s been sitting in my head lately.
We’re living through a noticeable loss of authentic, personal content. It’s being drowned out by traffic-driven, competitive, non-genuine material created primarily for clicks, engagement, and financial gain. And it shows.
There’s less transparency. Less honesty. Fewer real stories. Vulnerability has been replaced with performance. Humanity gets edited out in favor of polish. Consistency disappears as creators sprint after the current “hot take” instead of building something meaningful over time.
Ironically, this has sparked the rise of relatable content. Audiences are tired. They’ve grown weary of staged perfection and hyper-polished, plastic personas..especially over the last few years. People can sense when something is manufactured, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
So why does authenticity resonate so deeply?
Because it feels like relief.
Authenticity doesn’t demand anything from us. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t pretend. It simply shows up as it is..and invites others to do the same. Real stories make people feel seen. Honest reflections create connection. Vulnerability reminds us that we’re not alone in our confusion, contradictions, or quiet struggles.
And yes, there’s a business side to this too.
Authenticity builds trust. Trust builds loyalty. Loyalty lasts far longer than a viral moment. While trends spike and disappear, genuine voices compound over time. They attract audiences who stay, not because something is shiny, but because it feels real.
In a world obsessed with optimization, authenticity is the one thing you can’t fake at scale.
So this is me choosing substance over speed. Thought over trend. Human over highlight reel.
If that means fewer clicks but deeper connection, I’ll take it.
Every time.
